What the SPY page covers

SPY gamma exposure: Review SPY total GEX, the gamma flip level, market regime and open interest by strike.
What this SPY options data shows
This page shows completed-session options activity for SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (SPY): total call and put contract volume, premium traded, the put/call volume ratio, the most active strikes, the session's price candles and a gamma-exposure (GEX) snapshot. Figures are aggregates over reported exchange prints, delayed at least 48 hours, and update once per day.
Volume counts contracts traded in the session, not positions opened. High SPY call volume is not automatically bullish and high put volume is not automatically bearish: trades can close positions, sell options, hedge ETF exposure or form legs of multi-leg strategies.
How to read SPY options flow
Start with total volume and the call-versus-put mix, then look at where that activity concentrated by strike. Compare the busy strikes with the GEX distribution to see where activity and modeled dealer positioning overlap. None of these measurements reveals participant intent on its own.
Use total SPY volume to gauge activity, not direction.
Read the put/call ratio as descriptive of the displayed session only.
Check whether busy SPY strikes sit near the modeled gamma flip level.
Research individual prints and expirations in the full CaymanBot app.
SPY gamma exposure (GEX)
Gamma exposure estimates how options positioning may change dealer hedging as SPY moves. Positive and negative GEX describe a positioning model, not a guaranteed market reaction, and the gamma flip is the estimated price where net gamma changes sign. Use the GEX view to locate concentrated exposure, then compare those strikes with the session's volume.
SPY option chain: volume and open interest by strike
The SPY option chain is the full list of call and put contracts listed on SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust, an exchange-traded fund that tracks the S&P 500 index, organized by expiration date and strike price. This page does not reproduce the whole chain. It summarizes it from a snapshot delayed at least 48 hours, by strike: volume and open interest. Most active strikes shows how many SPY contracts traded at each strike in the session, and the Gamma exposure panel shows call and put open interest at each strike near the session's price.
Volume counts SPY contracts that traded during the session. Open interest counts contracts that were still open after clearing. A strike with high volume and modest open interest saw a lot of trading relative to the positions already there; a strike with large open interest and little volume holds positions that changed hands less in that session. Neither number shows whether traders were buying or selling, so read them as a map of where SPY activity and positioning sat, not as a signal.
SPY has daily expirations: options on SPY expire every weekday, Monday through Friday, alongside standard monthly and longer-dated expirations. The volume and open interest on this page are combined across all of those expirations, so a busy strike can reflect contracts that expire within days as well as contracts that expire months later.
Frequently asked questions
Where can I check SPY options volume for free?
On this page. CaymanBot publishes delayed aggregate SPY call volume, put volume, premium, put/call ratio, active strikes and GEX daily, with no account required.
Is this SPY options data real-time or delayed?
Delayed on this page: figures are delayed at least 48 hours and update once per day. A free CaymanBot account shows options data with a much shorter delay (the app states it), and Premium gets real-time data in the app for OPRA non-professional subscribers, along with individual prints and alerts.
What does high SPY call volume mean?
It means many SPY call contracts traded. By itself it does not prove bullish buying: trades may close positions, sell calls, hedge or form part of multi-leg strategies.
What is SPY GEX?
Gamma exposure for SPY estimates how options positioning may influence dealer hedging as the price changes. It is a model output, not a directional prediction.
What is the SPY option chain?
It is the full list of SPY call and put contracts, organized by expiration date and strike price. This page summarizes it by strike: volume and open interest, from a snapshot delayed at least 48 hours.
How do I read SPY volume and open interest by strike?
Volume shows how many contracts traded at a strike during the session. Open interest shows how many contracts were still open after clearing. Comparing the two shows whether trading at a strike was large relative to existing positions; neither shows whether traders were buying or selling.
What expirations do SPY options have?
SPY has daily expirations, Monday through Friday, plus standard monthly and longer-dated expirations. This page combines volume and open interest across expirations.
